There are several different stratas out there and this is one that we make every year for Christmas morning. You make it the night before and let it sit in the fridge overnight and then bake it while you are opening presents and then...voila! Your breakfast is ready! I recently made a Mexican version of it that I will soon post too!
Strata
12 oz. shredded cheddar cheese (I use low fat)
2 cups cubed ham (I also have used italian sausage-yummy too!)
6 eggs-beaten (I use egg beaters)
3-1/2 cups milk (I use skim)
1-1/2 tsp. instant minced onion
1/2 tsp. salt (I leave it out)
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
12 slices white bread (I use whole wheat)
Remove crusts from bread. Place six slices in bottom of buttered (spray) 13x9 pan. Layer cheese and ham. Place remaining bread on top of ham. Mix together remaining ingredients and pour over all. Let stand in refrigerator overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour uncovered. Enjoy!
*As you can see, I try to make it as low fat and calorie-less (?) as I can and it still tastes SOOOOO yummy!
