Double Decker Halloween M&M Brownies

Double Decker Halloween M&M Brownies

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided use
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (I used Ghirardelli 58% chocolate disk/chips)
1/2 cup Halloween colored M&M’s

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 13×9 inch metal baking pan with foil and spray foil with cooking spray.

Mix 2 1/4 cups flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl and set aside.

Cream butter and both sugars until light and fluffy; beat in vanilla and eggs. Add flour mixture and stir well. Divide batter in half.

Blend together cocoa powder and melted butter; stir into half of the dough along with about half of the chocolate chips; spread evenly into prepared baking pan.

To the remaining dough, stir in remaining 1/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips; spread evenly over cocoa dough in pan. Sprinkle top with M&M’S.

Bake 32-38 minutes or until edges start to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely. Cut into bars. Store in tightly covered container.

MAKES 24 BARS.

Note: I baked mine at a lower heat than M&M’s and kept them in the oven a bit longer.
